Need a fast growing tree? Many varieties of Concolor Fir, including this one, are known to grow quickly after establishment and can live to be over 100+ years old. They exhibit flat needles with a light green/deep blue color that produce a citrus aroma. Native to the southern Rocky Mountains, the San Isabel variety thrives at higher elevations and only requires a short growing season.
Uses
Concolor Fir ‘San Isabel’ are often used as Christmas trees along with landscaping, pulpwood, lumber purposes.
Wildlife Value
This tree offers nutritional value to many mammals and bird. Specifically, deer enjoy to eat the buds of the tree, porcupines enjoy the bark, and squirrels and grouses eat the seed.
History & Lore
The word ‘concolor’ in Latin translates to ‘same color’. Overall, this is referring to the color of the needles having the same color on both sides.
