Taxodium distichum is a long-lived wetland monarch. This deciduous conifer is an incredibly important component of floodplains, sloughs, swamps, brakes, or anywhere else that remains too wet for most other trees.
Uses
Wood from the baldcypress is highly valuable due to its ability to withstand the elements.
Wildlife Value
This tree serves as a habitat for for a variety of birds, turkeys especially enjoy the tree due to its long horizontal branches.
History & Lore
Indigenous tribes, including the Choctaw and Seminole, utilized the bald cypress for its useful wood and fiber to build dugout canoes, homes, and ceremonial objects.
