Notes
Thuja occidentalis, also known as ‘White Cedar”, is in the cypress family and native to the northern United States and Canada.  Thuja, is from a Greek word for perfume. Squeezing the evergreen leaves releases an aroma that is nothing less than nature’s perfume.

Uses
The American Arborvitae tree is often used for landscaping, hedging, privacy screens. Its wood is commonly used for fence posts, boxes, cups, furniture, and other items. Its bark can also be prepared into tea as it is packed with vitamin C.

Wildlife Value
This tree is known for providing shelter and nesting areas for several wild animals.

History & Lore
The American Arborvitae was useful in early canoes and medicines, and became one of the first North American trees introduced into Europe.
