Notes
The White Spruce is known for its short stiff needles that do not drop in the winter. When it comes to its branching, it extends downward for excellent wind protection. Distinguishing it from other Spruce species, White Spruce releases a strong smell of evergreen when crushed. This species also prefers cold climates.

Uses
This tree is used for windbreaks and Christmas trees. The wood is commonly used for paper making and construction.

The White Spruce provides value for many birds and deer when it comes to nesting.

As stated before, White Spruce prefer the cooler weather. Some zone 6 may be considered to warm for this tree to thrive. This tree is the northernmost species in North America being central to Alaska.
